How telehealth sessions work
Telehealth appointments happen over secure video, similar to a medical telehealth visit. We use a HIPAA-compliant platform through our TherapyNotes client portal. You’ll join from a link we send after scheduling — no complicated setup required.
In telehealth sessions, we’ll:
- Talk through what you’ve been dealing with and what you’d like to be different
- Use the same evidence-based approaches we use in person (CBT, ACT, DBT skills, trauma-informed care)
- Practice skills you can use between sessions to calm your nervous system and respond differently to stress
- Check in regularly about how things are going and adjust our plan as needed
Is online therapy effective?
Research shows that for many concerns — especially anxiety, depression, trauma, and relationship stress — telehealth can be just as effective as in-person counseling. In fact, some people find it easier to open up from the comfort of their own space.
Telehealth may be a good fit if you:
- Have a long commute, busy work schedule, or childcare responsibilities
- Live in a part of Pennsylvania with limited local mental health options
- Prefer not to run into people you know in a waiting room
- Have health, mobility, or transportation challenges that make travel harder
What you’ll need for telehealth
- A private, quiet space where you feel comfortable talking
- Reliable internet or data connection
- A smartphone, tablet, or computer with a camera and microphone
- Headphones if you’d like extra privacy
We’ll walk you through the technical side before your first appointment so you’re not trying to figure it out alone.
Frequently asked questions
Do I have to be in Pennsylvania for telehealth therapy?
Yes. Our clinicians are licensed in Pennsylvania, so you must be physically located in Pennsylvania at the time of your session—even if you live in another state.
What do I need for a telehealth session?
You’ll need a private space, a reliable internet connection, and a device with a camera and microphone (phone, tablet, or computer). We’ll send simple instructions before your first visit.
Is telehealth therapy effective?
For many concerns, telehealth is just as effective as in-person therapy. The most important factors are a good clinician fit and consistent follow-through on the work between sessions.
Can couples and families do telehealth?
Yes. We offer telehealth for individuals, couples, and families as long as all participants are physically located in Pennsylvania during the session.
How do payment and insurance work for telehealth?
Telehealth sessions are billed similarly to in-person sessions. Coverage varies by plan, and we also offer private-pay options.
What if I need a higher level of care?
If you’re in crisis or need urgent support, we’ll help you identify appropriate local resources. Telehealth is not a substitute for emergency services.
